Effective Rhetorical Strategies of Repetition Care to know how to bore your readers to tears? Repeat yourself. Carelessly, excessively, needlessly, endlessly, repeat yourself. (That tedious strategy is called battology.) Would you like to know how to keep your readers interested? Repeat yourself. Imaginatively, forcefully, thoughtfully, amusingly, repeat yourself. Needless repetition is deadly- no two ways about it. Its the kind of clutter that can put to sleep a circus full of hyperactive children. But not all repetition is bad. Used strategically, repetition can wake our readers up and help them to focus on a key idea- or, at times, even raise a smile. When it came to practicing effective strategies of repetition, rhetoricians in ancient Greece and Rome had a big bag full of tricks, each with a fancy name. Many of these devices appear in our Grammar Rhetoric Glossary. Here are seven common strategies- with some fairly up-to-date examples. Anaphora (pronounced ah-NAF-oh-rah)Repetition of the same word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses or verses.This memorable device appears most famously throughout Dr. Kings I Have a Dream speech. There was a very negative attitude of men towards women that educating women would corrupt their morals. Men opposing the ideology of educating a woman are viewed as the not very clever men avoiding competition from women. The attitude of women empowerment that was achieved during the renaissance time has changed the perception of educating women, though there is still some resistance even today from some men.

This is a cross-sectional method because it only deals with one instance, however if the organization wishes to follow participants through a time line, the research is considered longitudinal. The benefit of descriptive research method is that it generates a numerical value to answer a qualitative question. This can be used to test hypothesis, to find averages, and to create a measurement that can be analyzed to describe a state of being for a population. The cons of descriptive research are sample and measurement errors where a samples responses are incorrectly delivered, construed, answered or analyzed. Despite the company’s low returns, I still believe Gagne should go forward with the new high-end microwave oven because it will enhance the ease of use with minimal incremental costs. This microwave oven can also solve the problem with the variation in food quality, which should entice Gagne to go forward with the project. As far as other projects, they need to develop other projects that are all different from each other, which are visible to the retailer and potential customer. As far as handling the executive meeting, Gagne needs to tell them that she is scrapping those several projects in order to free up more funds, allowing more money to be used in other projects and enabling them to differentiate their line. Le Petit Chef’s poor performance can be attributed to a few things. The competition of the other companies developing products that directly competes with them such as Electrolux and Bosch-Siemens. It is important to have visible differentiation for products so the retailer sees the difference of their products. If a product has a lack of visible differentiation, the retailer and potential client will question what is different with the product and why it is more expensive than the previous model. In order for the company to remedy the situation I feel they need to implement the 18-month project for their high-end microwave oven with fuzzy intelligence technology and further advertise and market the glitches that have been fixed. I immediately clung to the heaters trying to warm my frozen body, but Susan ripped me away and dragged me to the front of the stage where Andy Sheldon, the bass guitarist of The Samples, would soon stand. My sister had dreams of one day marrying him, overlooking the fact that he was married and had kids. As we waited I stood and took in the surroundings, which included walls covered with pictures, albums and autographs. Jackson Browne, Bob Marley and Bruce Springsteen are only a few of the famous name s; history was seeping out of the walls. At first the club seemed large, but as the people piled in it became smaller and smaller. A thick haze of smoke began to collect above us and hover under the dim lights. The atmosphere was perfect for an incredible show. The opening band began to play and herds of people rushed in charging their way to the front. Susan and I stood our ground bonding together to keep our ideal spot. As the opening band played, Sean Kelly, the lead singer of The Samples, video taped the crowd from behind the stage as Jeep, the drummer, ran around trying to get our attention. Our class discussions have shown us the ambiguity of striking a balance between opposing forces: between intention and outcome, aid and empowerment, intrinsic and extrinsic affirmation, and self-interest and altruism. How do we balance these perspectives, when each has its benefits and pitfalls to the success of any project? In determining my own definition of public service, my hope is to elucidate factors that optimize each of these perspectives. In doing so, we can come closer to defining public service in a way that is both operationally useful and ethically guiding. Considering course documents and class discussions, I have defined the phrase as follows: The â€Å"public† is a marginalized body unable or unexpected to monetarily repay servants for provided goods. â€Å"Service† is an act that results in improved quality of life as reported by receiving individuals.
